Since 2007 I have been teaching Information Systems and Accounting papers part time for both the Bachelor of Information Technology and Bachelor of Commerce degrees at Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology in New Zealand. Prior to this I spent 10 years teaching secondary maths and computing at Rai Valley Area School which is a year 1-13 composite school. Before entering teaching, I worked for 7 years at Inland Revenue Department and 3 years at Audit New Zealand, along with some part time general accounting work.
I initially gained an accounting qualification by sitting the NZ Society of Accountants ACA exams and a Diploma in Business Studies from Christchurch Polytechnic before completing a bridging programme to gain a Bachelor of Business degree in management from the Open Polytechnic of NZ. I retrained as a teacher, completing a Diploma in Teaching from Christchurch College of Education.
Looking for a change in direction, I studied information technology at Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology where I completed a Level 6 Diploma Information & Communication Technology before moving on to the Bachelor of IT. Since then I have completed a number of qualifications from Massey University (Diploma Science and Technology, Graduate Diploma Information Science and Post Graduate Certificate in Education).
