Chris Burcin

As a music teacher, conductor and performer, Chris has a passion for helping his students find their musical voice and embrace life-long learning. All students, no matter their age or musical experience, should be empowered to develop their musical skills and understanding in order to better express themselves and participate meaningfully in an ever-changing world. Chris’s journey to the flipped classroom began with recording lessons for students who were away. He noticed many students were using YouTube to learn instrumental techniques and songs for performance. As technology has made online learning and video creation easier, Chris has embraced flipping as a way to maximize student understanding while simultaneously freeing up class time for more practical work and, most importantly, more opportunities to fail on the road success. Chris is eLearning Middle Leader at St. Monica’s College, Cairns, an all-girls Catholic secondary school, where he also teaches Music and Religious Education.
