I first graduated in 2001 with a PGDipEd from Massey University. I began teaching in Auckland in 2002 with a year 2 class. Since then I have had experience teaching from New Entrants (5 year olds ) to today where I teach Year 7 & 8 students (12 – 13 year olds). I have taught in four schools of various deciles across Auckland. I was also lucky enough to teach for a year in England. When I returned from the UK I took up a Team leader role at a brand new school which implemented open source software and began utilising various tools to create an engaging and interactive learning environment. Six years ago I moved schools and changed roles. I became one of two teachers who opened e-Learning classrooms at my current school. This is where each student had an iPad and most of their learning was done on this device. Since then I have moved levels and continue to teach a e-learning room. My knowledge and teaching has changed considerably over these past six years. One year into my new role I decided to go back to University and finish my Masters. Last year I completed my Masters in Education (e-Learning) graduating with Merit from Massey University.
I teach all subject areas every day of the week to a group of 30 Year 7 & 8 students. They all have iPads and several other class devices to help enhance their learning. I have been to several conferences about using Google apps in classrooms, NPDL, ULearn (learning digital skills from others), Leading a digital school and others. I have professional interests in e-learning, the arts, maths, gifted education and student agency. This year I decided to take my interest in Flipped learning further by completing this course and attending RESCON 2018 in NZ.
